Run a video consult

Start a video call from an online appointment; the patient joins in their browser with no account and no app.

Where to find it: Calendar → appointment → Start video

Open this in the portal →

Steps

  1. In the appointment form, mark the appointment as “Online (video)”.
  2. From 30 minutes before the start until an hour after the end, “Start video” appears on that appointment, in the appointment window and in the dashboard's list for today.
  3. It opens a call panel beside the patient record. Use “Copy patient link” or “Email link to patient” to get the join link to the patient.
  4. The patient joins from that link on the /consult page in their browser. The confirmation and reminder emails of an online appointment carry the same link.

Good to know

Video consults are off by default: the owner switches them on under Account & Settings → Communication with “Offer video consults”; until then none of these controls appear. Sound and picture are encrypted end to end between the two browsers and are not recorded. Transcription is a separate switch, “Allow transcription during video consults”, also off by default: the patient is asked in their own language, nothing is transcribed unless they agree, and either side can stop it. Only the text is kept. Only practitioners and owners can start a call; any seat, front desk included, may send the link.
